Christchurch Earthquake - Information for Clients

Feb 2011

As devastating as 22 February was for us all, we are now well advanced in looking to the future. We are committed to Christchurch and to the South Island. It is our home and we are here for the long haul back to a prosperous and joyous city.

Most of our Christchurch lawyers are now working in our temporary offices, or working remotely, supported by our teams in Dunedin and Queenstown.

The CBD cordon remains in place which precludes us from entering our offices in Clarendon Tower. However we have full access to our electronic files and accordingly we are experiencing very little disruption in providing advice. We have secured new premises at Birmingham Drive in Addington and we are currently in the process of arranging the necessary fit out. In the meantime, thanks to fantastic and much appreciated support from  colleagues at Foodstuffs we have an office in their Trents building at 171 Main North Road where a number of our staff will be located for the next 4 - 6 weeks. You are welcome to call and see us there or alternatively we are happy to come to you. We are all adapting to a new way of working but the critical thing for us is that we continue to provide the excellent level of service that you have come to expect.

Although it is early days we know that many of you have legal questions related to the earthquake that need to be resolved quickly. Below we have provided answers to some of the most frequently asked questions. The situation is of course changing rapidly and we will keep these fact sheets updated as further information comes to hand. As individual circumstances are likely to differ slightly we would be happy to provide advice specific to your situation - please contact any of the partners listed under "Our People".

Finally we wish to take this opportunity to thank all our clients and colleagues for their support. We have been overwhelmed and humbled by the many messages and practical offers of assistance we have received. It reminds us of what makes Canterbury and the South Island so very special.
